2020 World Maritime Day: NAMM President, Alao, Rallies Support for Seafarers, Industry
The President of the Nigerian Association of Master Mariners (NAMM), Capt Tajudeen Alao, has appealed to the Federal Government to reactivate the indigenous shipping sector by refloating a viable national carrier.
Speaking on the occasion of the 2020 edition of the World Maritime Day at Apapa Lagos, the master mariner said this would provide jobs for seafarers in the country as well as encourage the training of cadets whose careers are now frustrated by the lack of ships for sea time experience.
The event was held at the Mission to Seafarers situated along Oskar Ibru Way in Apapa GRA. Dignitaries at the occasion include the President of the Association of Licensed Clearing Agents of Nigeria (ANLCA), Prince Olayiwola Shittu, the Treasurer of the Mission, Mr. Dafinone, the Secretary of the Independent Ship Owners Association of Nigeria, Ms. Funmi Folorunso and maritime journalists.
